Baja is a premiere destination filled with adventure. This attractive state offers a wide range of activities, climate, industry and lifestyles. From the northern border with California to the tip of the peninsula, Baja will never cease to amaze you.
Its territory is divided into two states: Baja California Norte and Baja California Sur (Northern Baja and Southern Baja). In northern Baja you can find booming towns like Ensenada, where you can find anything from the best fish tacos in “el Mercado Negro” (it’s a town market to get fresh fish), to spending the day tasting some of the fabulous wines the region has to offer. If an active town is what you want then Rosarito is the place. With several of the regions top night clubs and most lively scenes, the fun won't stop. Another big attraction in northern Baja is experiencing the magnificent migration of the gray whales, and watching them mate and nurse their young at Laguna Ojo de Liebre (Scammons Lagoon), which is in the middle of Baja.
In the peninsula’s southern state, Southern Baja, you’ll find incredible natural scenery, amazing beach resorts, spas, deserts, nature reserves and the mountains of the Sierra de San Francisco, where you can witness magnificent cave murals or visit old missions. World renowned Cabo San Lucas is located at the southernmost tip of the state, where you can enjoy the numerous world class spas and five star resorts it has to offer. Cabo is also one of Mexico’s most popular destinations for night life and top-notch golf courses. If big cities aren’t for you, then you are sure to enjoy La Paz and Loreto. In these towns you will find a safe haven from every day life, where sunny days last longer and you can go sportfishing, surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, scuba diving or whale-watching on the Sea of Cortez any day of the week.
Nowadays driving through the Baja is the best way to enjoy it. With a transpeninsular highway that is kept in top shape year round, and with a hotel chain called The Desert Inn specifically design for transpeninsular trips, you can’t go wrong. Make sure you ask about our "Travel Pass" which makes traveling through the Baja a breeze, at 1-800-262-4500.
